You Are Never Alone by Max Lucado Bible Study with Pastor Ron beginning February 16th.

When life feels depleted, does God care? I'm facing an onslaught of challenges; will God help? When life grows dark and stormy, does God notice? I'm facing the fear of death; will God help me? The answer in the life-giving miracles in the Gospel of John is a resounding yes. (see promo at: https://youtu.be/LuCR8n-J0rw )

Opening Song: Nearer My God to Thee by Donna Farver

https://soundcloud.com/jennifer-parks-snyder/nearer-my-god-to-ther-1

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me.

Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,

Darkness be over me, my rest a stone,

Yet in my dreams I'd be, nearer, my God, to Thee,

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,

Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;

So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee;

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!

Opening Prayer

Open our hearts and spirits this day to hear the great good news of Your power and presence with all Your people. Fill our hearts with rejoicing as the words are proclaimed in song and story. Enliven us and remind us that You are with us, through the ministry and love of Jesus Christ. AMEN.

Children’s Time: It's our children's time and I want to start with a question I ask you each and every week: Who are you? Children Respond: Special Gifts of God!

PJ: That's right, you are special gifts of God each and every day and I'm so lucky to spend time with you!

If you have ever made a snowflake out of paper or a coffee filter, it can be quite fun to cut the holes in them.

And I was thinking that a homemade snowflake can be a reminder of our lives.

For instance, there are experiences that we have in our lives, some good, some not so good, and yet it all can be beautiful.

So let’s pretend that my life is this coffee filter. And each day I experience different things represented with the cuts. Experiences of joy, happiness. Experiences of pain or sadness. Experiences of being ok or frustrated.

And yet when I unfold it and look it at, all those experiences make my life beautiful. That’s what we believe God offers us in Jesus. No matter the experiences we go through, Jesus is there with us, and He makes our lives beautiful.

Let’s pray: Thank You God, for Jesus, who makes our lives beautiful. Amen.

Joys & Concerns

Prayer & Pastoral Prayer

God of us all, Your love never ends. We thank You for all with which You have blessed us with: for the gift of joy in days of health and strength and for the gifts of Your abiding presence that carries us forward in days of pain and grief. We praise You for the blessings we have received…

And we praise You for home and friends, and for the comfort they bring.

We thank You God that we can also pray to You for one another in our need. To those who doubt, give light; to those who are weak, strength; to all who have sinned, mercy; to all who sorrow, Your peace. Keep true in us the love with which we hold one another. In all our ways help us to trust You. And to You, with Your church on earth and in heaven, we offer honor and glory, now and forever through Your Son Jesus Christ who knew our griefs, who died our death and rose for our sake and who lives and prays for us now, and so we pray saying, Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

Offering Invitation: With great appreciation for all that God does to answer our prayers, we receive our morning offering today. This is a vital reminder of the many ways in which we can serve God through the ministries and mission of this church.

Offering Prayer: God of glory and strength, we share this offering with You as a response to Your powerful acts in our own lives. We share our financial resources with You because of the splendorous ways that You have blessed us. All glory is given to You, Lord God. In Your powerful name, we pray. Amen.

Scripture Lessons: Matthew 5:1-4 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2 andHhe began to teach them. He said: 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Matthew 11:28-30 28 “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Sermon: Blessed are Those Who Mourn

As we continue our sermon series on the Beatitudes, we come to “blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”.

Today I am going to share a message with you from Rev. Gary Shockley who is from the office of Congregational Development of the Susquehanna Conference. And in this message, we will gain a better understanding of the comfort we receive when we rely on God in Jesus.

Closing Song: Climb Up the Mountain by the LUMC Praise Band

https://soundcloud.com/jennifer-parks-snyder/climb-up-the-mountain/s-QzMSQHW2ALs

I look into your eyes I can see your innocence

I want more for you than I, could ever hope too

Climb up the mountain and then touch the sky

Reach for your dreams don’t let life pass you by

There will be valleys and struggles for you

Just lean on Jesus, He’ll help you break through

I want you to take the chance

Step out onto the ledge

Look down on the world below

Take a chance and let it go

Climb up the mountain and then touch the sky

Reach for your dreams don’t let life pass you by

There will be valleys and struggles for you

Just lean on Jesus, He’ll help you break through

Oh, I hope you will be alright Cause I pray for you day and at night

That you’ll find your way to His light

Climb up the mountain and then touch the sky

Reach for your dreams don’t let life pass you by

There will be valleys and struggles for you

Just lean on Jesus, He’ll help you break through

(repeat)

Benediction:

As you have been blessed, now go to be a blessing to others. Go, bringing the news of peace and hope, of healing and love. Go and the comfort of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will be with you.  AMEN.
